Just as the needs of infants are different than those of teen-agers, animal babies need different care than their older counterparts. Because of their size, they are much more susceptible to dehydration and other ailments. These conditions, which in older animals can cause discomfort, in young animals can actually cause death.
We suggest that you bring your new puppies and kittens in to see us very soon after purchase, preferably within 48 hours. A full physical exam is needed as soon as possible. Parasites are especially harmful to younger pets and can be present at birth. During that first exam we will assess the pet's need for parasite control.
At the initial visit we decide on a course of vaccinations. Again, animal babies are just like human babies in that they are quite susceptible to virus and disease. Therefore, we want to get them vaccinated as soon as possible. We do not start a course of vaccines, however, before a pet is ready. For different pets, that point of readiness comes at different times. This depends on breed, size, health and environment.
We want to be a part of your pet's life from the start in order to keep them on the path to healthy and long life.
